Quick Tips!

Now, there are two websites for Hawker® battery…one for North America and one for Europe. If you’re in the U.S. Military, whether stationed at home or deployed globally, ensure you’re on the North American site.
How? Check to see if the circular American flag icon at the top of the page has a red circle around it. If not, click the US flag icon.
The European Union site provides support for EU Forces.
Answer to question from last issue:
I’ve heard the term SLI battery. What’s that?
SLI is an acronym for Starting, Lighting, Ignition (and Instrumentation).
SLI batteries are designed to provide the initial short-burst of energy to power a vehicle’s starter (starter motor), lights (interior and exterior), ignition (spark plugs, ignition coil, distributor…or the electronic control module in a modern vehicle), as well as instruments (dashboard gauges). While SLI batteries are great at providing short bursts of current, they are not designed to provide long-term energy. In fact, after engine start, the vehicle’s alternator generates most (if not all) of the energy to power the lights, instruments, and accessories, as well as recharge the battery.
SLI batteries are commonly found in the average person’s privately-owned vehicle (POV). However, an SLI battery is not designed to be drained to more than a 40% Depth of Discharge (DoD) ...meaning it should always retain at least 60% of its energy (known as a 60% State of Charge or SoC)…else you risk internal damage to the battery. Normally, when choosing an SLI battery the CA and CCA ratings are the most important capabilities.
And, although Hawker® batteries are well-known for their deep-cycling capability (think “silent watch”) …they also perform the duties of a standard SLI battery!
Did you know?
that there’s an official U.S. Army publication for the care and maintenance of Absorbed Glass Mat batteries like the Hawker® brand?
Yes, sir…it’s TB 9-6140-252-13, “Recharging Procedures for Automotive Valve Regulated Lead-Acid Batteries”. Need a copy? No problem, it’s located right here at
https://hawkerbattery.com/resources/ …along with other battery technical documents, as well as frequently asked questions (FAQs), to keep you proficient and your batteries ready!
